New Way to Study

So, I have figured out the best way to study. Reading my notes on the elliptical. Since I have to study, and I have to workout to stay in shape, I figured I would give this a shot! AND it works! My friends think I am crazy because I am able to do this. I figured I can kill two birds with one stone, and it actually leaves me more time to study when I am at home and I feel less guilty. Granted, I don't get many crossfit type workouts in this way, but that's ok. I just started doing this about 4 days ago. And I have only missed one day. So, woo hoo!

Wednesday: Took me 28 minutes to do a little over 2 miles.
Thursday: 20 minutes to do 1.8 miles, then did an hour of Zumba dance class
Friday: didn't make it to the gym, had to babysit after work
Saturday: 30 minutes and 2.4 miles. Bench press: 45x 10, 55x 10, 65x8, 50 sit ups

I am going to try to keep an eye on my times and see how I am doing. I am obviously not going break neck speed, but I am keeping a comfortable working pace. Probably best described as a comfortable jog. The way I calculate the time is however long it takes me to read my notes. I would have been finished earlier today, but was texting a friend as well. Oh well, more time on the elliptical.

After my workout, I usually have a post workout shake. Which is made of strawberries, protein powder, almond butter (for fat source), and milk. It is actually really yummy! :)

Ok, something else I want to address. I wish I could tell me work friends this, but I can't, so I will rant to you guys. So, everyone is suddenly obsessed with losing weight. And they are all doing these fad diets. Yeah, they are losing about 8-10 pounds a week, but it is so unhealthy they don't even realize this! And these are NURSES! Of course you are going to lose weight, you are only consuming 500 calories, and your body is going through ketoacidosis, which is not good! Yes, you will lose weight, but what happens when you go off this diet and start eating real food again? (They have to buy the company they are doing it from the food that they sell and market). You are going to gain weight, and maybe gain more than you originally had! As far as I know, they are not exercising. Which is killing me! The best way to lose weight is to make smarter food choices and exercise. One bite of cake won't kill you. The whole cake will. One biscuit won't hurt. The whole can...no bueno. It's all about choices and portion control. I admit, I love ice cream. It is a weakness for me and I know this. So, the way I get around this is, one buying a lot fat ice cream, and two, only eating a spoonful of it, and then putting it away. I love life, and I don't want to not eat what I want to, but you have to be smart about it. Fad diets come and go, but smart choices.....those will last you a lifetime, and you can still enjoy the foods you love.

Ok..I am off my soap box now. Thank you and good night! :)

  1. I love your new strategy, Amy! If I didn't hate machines so much, I'd do the same thing. I'm glad it's working out for you so far! :)

Ugh, I know exactly what you mean!!!!!! Anytime we have a luncheon at school for the staff, the overweight guidance counselors and teachers (I don't mean to brag, but I am by far the fittest teacher at my school, although the social worker is a pretty good second but she likes whole grains and refuses to believe me or the scientific evidence about how bad they are for you) talk on and on about new diets and how black beans are the best new things out there to eat instead of meat! I about choked!! I kept my mouth shut, though, because there were like five of them saying this crap, and I wasn't about to burst their bubbles. They also buy into the crap that animal products are what make us fat. Nooooooooo!! They all need to see Fat Head (have you seen it yet? Definitely a must-see!!!) and stop buying into all that crap. Argh! AND, just like your colleagues, these ladies don't EXERCISE!!!! We have an elevator in our school, and they always always use that instead of walking up the stairs. No wonder they're so rotund and out of shape. Bleh!! Okay, I'm done now, too. :) Gotta get back to my school work. Take care!!

  2. Thanks! I used to hate machines too, but since I have to read my notes for school, I figured it was the best way to do two things at once. It actually ends up being very relaxing. You should try it sometime when you can't make it to Crossfit due to the amount of studying you have to do!

No, I haven't seen Fat Head. What's it about??

  3. Go to fathead-movie.com for more details, but in a nutshell, the guy debunks all what the Super-Size Me dude (forget his name) tried to tell us with his experiment. It's really amazing! Sorry I'm so brief, but I gotta get back to my assignment so I can go to bed at a reasonable hour tonight. :) Hope you are having a great week!!
